Church Farm

Due to the care and thoughtfulness taken with the renovation and conversion of the building at Church Farm, the surrounding landscape demanded the same considerate approach. Being listed buildings of significant historic value, great care was taken with the design to maintain their features, feeling, and functionality. Both the architecture and landscape also prioritised creating a wildlife inclusive space. The architecture was embedded with nesting bird and bat hibernacula, with additional bat boxes fitted to suitable existing trees on site.

To further support the birds and insects, we focused on a native tree and shrub pallet, with the extensive grounds predominantly sown with a high diversity bespoke meadow mix to reflect the nature of the location. Managed principally for biodiversity, the meadows have increased the rural character and heritage of the farmyard & water meadow setting. Overall, the landscape is aimed at reinforcing the gentle and soft nature of the adjacent water meadow and providing an inspiring place to work within this heritage farmyard context.

The Courtyard design, creating the interface between the wider landscape and buildings, uses a traditional materials pallet making homage to the historic farmyards of the area. The planted boarders adds an inviting softness to the space, whilst providing habitat for pollinator.

Tragically, in the finishing stages of construction the main barn burnt down. Thankfully the surrounding buildings were saved, and tenants have now moved in to enjoy the wonderful building and their beautiful surrounding.
