Panford Beck River Restoration Project, Norfolk
Digg & Co. is proud to have contributed to the design and coordination of the transformative Panford Beck river restoration project in Norfolk, made possible through funding from the Water Restoration Fund. Commissioned further to a request from David Diggens, present of The Norfolk Rivers Trust, who lives next to the river. We were honoured to contribute our expertise to a landscape that has deep personal resonance for our team, Toby grew up there.
The project focuses on the full restoration of the Panford Beck valley, sections of the River Blackwater, and the surrounding floodplain and grazing lands. Through both riverine and terrestrial baseline habitat planning, masterplanning and bespoke farming consultancy, we are helping shape a biodiverse, resilient ecosystem.
Working closely with Charles Rangeley Wilson and the Internal Drainage Board, we are delivering a riverine masterplan grounded in spatial and ecological history and contemporary river restoration techniques. The restoration will feature wet woodlands, floodplain wetlands, braided river channels, and rush pasture habitats—brought together in a comprehensive visual masterplan.
A key element of the project is the Long-Term Holistic Habitat Management Plan, which will be developed through collaborative grazing workshops with the Foxburrow Grazing Team. This initiative focuses on dynamic techniques like mob grazing to support a thriving habitat mosaic, which will be led by Bella and Toby with their experience in restoring habitats on Mill Barton.
This project reflects our commitment to restoring hydrological complexity and ecological richness, leaving a lasting legacy on a much-loved landscape.
