Argal Home Farm

Argal Home Farm nestles into the hills nearby Falmouth. Centred around a recently remodelled farmyard and stunning farmhouse by Woldon Architects and Linea Studio Interiors, the wider farmed landscape is a mixture of sloping pastures, maturing belts of woodland and a developing market garden. The farmyard has been re-shaped to allow for local craftspeople and small enterprises, such as Yallah coffee and James Smith Designs, to set up a home base in the countryside and to enjoy the new farmstead community.

As part of this regenerative plan, we were asked to come up with a whole landscape masterplan for the farmland, which encompasses new woodland plantings, diverse grassland restoration, permaculture design and water design. Inspired by the deeply Celtic roots of the place and the people inhabiting the farm we set about creating a masterplan which is as much about ecological richness as moments of wonder and spirituality as you traverse the farm. Ideas such as gentle tumuli formed from the creation of in field ponds, bespoke landscape interventions and even a living Beech cathedral as a meditative space were put forward and will be delivered over the coming years as the farmland transitions to a more wooded and wood pasture landscape.

As ever, we ecologically baselined the project before these interventions took place in order to understand the benefits (or not) that the project will have on the flora and fauna of the farm and this will be a lasting benchmark for management decisions and the new woodlands and diverse pastures begin their journey to maturity. It is a wonderful project, full of rich land stories and design thinking. Thank you Argal.
